Irregularities in Fiber Properties of Cotton in Commercial Mill Mixes1

  1. C. B. Landstreet and
  2. D. M. Simpson2

Synopsis

Synopsis

Unmixed raw stock from which 3 commercial mixes were obtained showed the following range in variability of mean fiber properties: 9 to 20% in UHM, 16 to 35% in fineness, and 19 to 24% in fiber strength. Samples from finisher drawing sliver had maximum range of only 5, 5, and 6% for UHM, fineness, and strength. More concern for mean fiber values and less for fiber irregularities is suggested in cotton breeding.
