The Cytogenetic Behavior of the Progeny from a Backcross (Sorghum vulgare. ✕ S. halepense. ✕ S. vulgare1)

Synopsis

Synopsis

Most of 70 backcross progeny plants from pollinating a 30-chromosome hybrid by Sweet Sudangrass had 20 chromosomes. Fertility was low and varied greatly among plants. At the 20-chromosome level, selection seemed promising except for rhizomatous pure lines. Data suggest extraction of pure lines and their combination in synthetics or first generation hybrids.
