Synopsis

Synopsis

The respiration rates of tobacco, corn, and cotton roots undergo daily fluctuations with the maximum rate generally occurring about 4 p.m. Root weight appears to be the primary factor influencing the amount of respiration under favorable aeration conditions. However, the concentrations of CO2 and O2 in the root atmosphere influence the respiration rate.
