Moisture Equilibrium Values in Relation to Mold Formation of Seeds of Several Grass and Small-Seeded Legumes1

  1. S. T. Dexter22

Moisture contents of many small-seeded legumes and grasses at equilibrium with relative humidities from 55 to 85% are given, together with indications of the rate of attaining equilibrium and the rate of molding. Grass seeds reached equilibrium more quickly, molded more quickly, and absorbed a smaller amount of moisture in going from a efficiently dry to dangerously damp condition than did small legume seeds. Rapidity of molding was closely associated with rapidity of attaining equilibrium.
