Comparative Performance of Various Combinations of F1 and F2 Generation Seed of Maize1

The presence of 20% or more of F2 female single cross seed in an original F1 double cross hybrid was necessary to obtain a statistically significant reduction in yield. The vigorous F1 plants partly compensate for the loss effected by the F2 plants.
