Determining Minimum Populations for Initial Evaluation of Breeding Material1
- Franklin A. Graybill and
- William R. Kneebone2
Two procedures are illustrated with examples. Method I uses estimated population variability and is demonstrated by determining minimum samples necessary for average confidence interval lengths to be stated percentages of parameter means with stated probability. Given coefficients of variation, sample sizes necessary for specified degrees of precision are shown graphically.
Method II uses variability estimates from initial sampling to determine final sample sizes needed to meet stated standards in evaluation. Please view the pdf by using the Full Text (PDF) link under 'View' to the left.
