Synopsis
Significant differences between tray levels in percent germination were found in 3 of 4 germination environments tested. With the germinator filled to capacity, temperatures in top, middle, and bottom trays varied as much as 4° C. from the intended means. These tests indicate that small differences in environment within a germinator influence the percent germination and that a random replication of seed samples by tray is needed in order to give a better estimate of the germination of a given seed lot.
