Evaluating the Breeding Potential of Inbred Lines of Corn Resistant to the Leaf Blight Caused by Helminthosporium Turcicum1

  1. Merle T. Jenkins and
  2. Alice L. Robert2

Synopsis

Synopsis

Thirty blight resistant inbred lines differed significantly in their blight reaction as lines, in their reaction in crosses with 3 susceptible tester lines, and in the performance of the F2 progenies from these crosses. There also were highly significant differences in blight reaction among the 3 testers and for the interaction of lines ✕ testers, both for the F1 crosses and for the F2 progenies. Lines identified as superior breeding sources of resistance were GE440, CI.90A, CI.93A, and Wh4971, with CI.86A, CI.28A, and Kyll4 also showing good promise.
