Synopsis
Synopsis
The induced autotetraploids had larger leaflets, stems, flowers, and seeds and lower yields of hay and seed than the respective parental diploids. Progenies from chasmogamous flowers gave higher yields than progenies from cleistogamous flowers, indicating heterosis. Viable hybrids were not obtained from any of the various combinations of diploid and tetraploid matings attempted. In ovaries of the diploid mating of L. Stipulacea × L. cuneata collapse of the ovule began at about the sixth day. The endosperm appeared degenerate.
