Photosynthesis Under Field Conditions. II. An Aerodynamic Method for Determining the Turbulent Carbon Dioxide Exchange Between the Atmosphere and a Corn Field1

  1. Edgar R. Lemon2

Rates of exchange calculated from measurements of wind velocity and CO2 gradients in the turbulent air stream were in the same order of magnitude as those calculated by another method and the aerodynamic method does not alter the crop environment. Turbulence may be a limiting factor in supply of CO2 to an active crop on sunny days. Photosynthesis efficiency was 5% at midday and nearly 8% for total daylight period on a single day.
