Effect of Certain Fertility and Management Treatments on the Growth and Early Development of Tillers of Two Varieties of Smooth Bromegrass1

  1. L. B. Hertz2

Synopsis

Synopsis

Seedlings of two varieties of Bromus inermis Leyss., Lyon and Canadian certified, produced more tillers when kept free of weeds than when weeds were clipped or where a companion crop was used. The production of tillers by Canadian certified (northern adapted) was greater than by Lyon (southern adapted) when free of competition. The addition of fertilizer did not significantly increase the development of tillers.
