Wear Resistance of Cool Season Turfgrasses. Effects of Previous Mowing Practices1

  1. Victor B. Youngner2

Synopsis

Synopsis

Studies using an “accelerated wear” machine showed significant differences in wear resistance among several grass mixtures. One-half-inch mowing for 3 years prior to the tests was found to reduce wear resistance compared to mowing at 2 inches. Restricted grass development under close mowing is suggested as a possible cause of the reduced wear resistance.
