Production of Corn and Soybeans in Alternate Pairs of Rows

  1. Morris W. Alexander and

Synopsis

Synopsis

Corn intercropped with soybeans yielded approximately 30% more (for area actually in corn) than when planted alone. Methods of planting and rates of planting within hybrids gave no significant difference in standability. On the basis of area occupied by the crop, soybean yields obtained by the intercrop method were about the same as would be expected when planted alone in 36-inch rows.
