Selection of Competitive Strains of Soybean Nodulating Bacteria1
- Herbert W. Johnson and
- Ura Mae Means2
Competitive relationships of six strains of Rhizobium japonicum with chlorosis-inducing strain 76 identified under essentially sterile conditions in greenhouse tests were confirmed in the more complex environment of a field soil containing few soybean nodulating bacteria. Thirteen of 299 strains evaluated for competitiveness had a competitive advantage over strain 76 in greenhouse tests. Six strains ranked for competitiveness with strain 76 had similar ranks when evaluated in all combinations with each other. Please view the pdf by using the Full Text (PDF) link under 'View' to the left.
