Effects of Temperature and Daylength on the Development of Lignin, Cellulose, and Protein in Dactylis glomerata L. and Bromus inermis Leyss1

Percent lignin was negatively correlated with temperature for Latar orchardgrass but not for Manchar smooth bromegrass. Percent lignin showed no correlation with daylength for either grass. Protein percent showed a significant negative correlation with daylength. Total leaf production was highest for both grasses at 85° F. or under the 14-hour daylength.
