Synopsis

Phosphorus uptake from calcareous and noncalcareous soils was correlated with available P as determined by five methods. With calcareous soils all of the methods except the 1-to-10 Bray No. 1 were suitable for estimating available P. With noncalcareous soils the best correlations between uptake and available P were obtained using the Morgan and water solubility methods. Relationships between available P and soil properties such as amount and kind of carbonates in calcareous soils and forms of P were examined.
