Synopsis

Synopsis

The use of Sr90 to demonstrate cation exchange reactions has been effective in increasing the interest of beginning soil students in soil chemistry and in the adsorption of cations by soil. The demonstration is used as a basis to explain many of the observations made since radioactive fallout has occurred. Also, the demonstration is used to illustrate the removal of radioactive materials from solutions by ion exchange.
