Synopsis

Synopsis

The color of small new bean leaves was observed to change with increasing soil-moisture tension. The character of the color change was different for various stages of growth and was greatest when the plants were in the seedling stage. Plant growth-rate as indicated by the measurement of foliage volume of intact plants was depressed as soil-moisture diminished and leaf color became darker.
