Synopsis

Winter survival of Kearny and Chase winter barley on summer-fallowed field plots was increased by (1) preplant application of Chloropicrin and by (2) combined preplant application of chloropicrin and N-fertilizer. The increase in survival from (2) was greater than from (1). The precise nature of the beneficial effects of these treatments was not determined.
