A recessive marker gene for white flower was used to estimate the distance alfalfa pollinating insects would carry viable pollen. The amount of contaminate pollen disseminated by bees was a function of the bee species, distance, and season. The leaf-cutter bee did not carry pollen away from the base plot as far as the honeybee did. Endemic pollinators carried viable pollen as far as one mile. Please view the pdf by using the Full Text (PDF) link under 'View' to the left.
