Effect of Mulches on Soil Temperature and Grain Sorghum Development1

  1. John E. Adams2

Synopsis

Synopsis

One- and 2-inch deep gravel mulches reduced grain sorghum growth and yield. Soil mulches treated with dioctadecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC) were not toxic or inhibitory to grain sorghum growth and development. Soil temperatures under all mulches were in a satisfactory range for plant growth throughout the growing season.
