Productivity of 10-Year-Old Canned Forage Seeds1

  1. T. M. Ching and
  2. W. Calhoun2

Seeds of crimson clover and perennial ryegrass were conditioned to 6, 8, 12, 16 and 20% moisture, sealed in cans, and stored at 3, 22, and 38 C and in a wooden warehouse for 10 years. Only 17 samples maintained their high germinability. When these samples were compared with fresh seeds for forage and seed production, no significant difference was found between the old and fresh seeds.
