Winter Wheat Yields and Response to Nitrogen as Affected by Soil and Climatic Factors1

Abstract

Abstract

Soil moisture, precipitation, temperature, and organic matter variables were related to winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) yields and yield response to N fertilizer. Though significant simple and multiple correlations were found, relationships were not sufficiently close to yield satisfactory equations for predicting wheat yields or yield response to N fertilizer. However, the fact that soil moisture alone or in combination with the other variables studied did not yield a satisfactory predictive equation does not preclude their use in decisions regarding fertilizer applications.
