Head Size of Sunflower as an Indicator of Plot Yields1

  1. Robert E. Burns2

Abstract

Abstract

The accuracy of plot yields of sunflower is often reduced by bird depredation. To find a substitute for harvested yields of plots, the head size of two varieties of sunflower was correlated with yield per head. The high correlation obtained (r = 0.95) indicates that, in plots which have considerable bird damage, yield estimates based on head size would be more accurate than actual seed weights.
