Design and Use of an Anhydrous NH3 Applicator for Field Research1

  1. R. W. Smiley and
  2. R. I. Papendick2

A compact, tractor-mounted anhydrous NH3 applicator for field plot studies was designed, constructed, and tested. The metering pump is driven by one of two depth control wheels. The applicator chassis was custom fabricated; commercially available components, including the main tank were used for construction of the NH3 application system. Important features include readily interchangeable tool bars holding the applicator shanks, and a second tank for applying formulations of anhydrous NH3 with other chemicals.
