Abstract

Abstract

Results from four methods of harvesting Vernonia anthelmintica (L.) Willd. seed indicated that the highest yield (1,369 kg/ha) was obtained by cutting and windowing plants before seedheads opened. When harvest was delayed until all seed had ripened, yields were reduced to 264 kg/ha by shattering. Other methods gave intermediate yields.
