Microcomputer Processing and analysis of Pedon Descriptions 1

Abstract

Microcomputer software has been developed to store coded morphological data for soil pedons in text (sequential ASCII) files. A standard input form facilitates data entry. The software can generate standard narrative block descriptions and tabular output of the coded horizon data. The narrative block description can be stored on disk and later merged into the soils handbook for the survey area. The coded data can be read into a commercially available relational database (RDB) for the microcomputer. The RDB facilitates development of summaries on ranges in texture, color, and other morphological properties as well as reports based on landscape or other site data for a soil series.
