Abstract

Abstract

Phytosterol levels in air-cured hurley tobacco, Nicotiana tabacum L., ranged from 1.40 to 2.10 mg/g of dry weight. The pattern of sterol distribution in the tobacco plant was characterized by a linear increase from the base to the apex. Within a leaf, the sterol distribution was also linear with increasing levels from the basal section to the tip of a leaf.
