Genetic Parameters in Burley Populations of Nicotiana tabacum L. I. ‘Ky 10’ × ‘Burley 21’1

  1. Paul D. Legg and
  2. G. B. Collins2

In the F2 generation of a cross between two burley varieties of Nicotiana tabacum L., additive genetic variances were significant for days to flower, plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, yield, and total alkaloids. All estimates of dominance and additive × additive epistatic variances were negative or nonsignificant. Heritabilities were low and estimates of additive genetic and phenotypic correlations between pairs of agronomic characters were positive. The six agronomic characters were negatively correlated with total alkaloids.
