Abstract

Abstract

The pachytene idiogram of Medicago glomerata Balb. was found to be almost identical to that published for M. sativa L., only two arm ratio means and two chromosome length means differing significantly between the two species. The M. glomerata idiogram was also similar to a M. falcata L. idiogram, although in this case there were greater differences. Hybrids between M. glomerata and both M. sativa and M. falcata had normal pachytene pairing. Hence M. glomerata may be a common ancestor of both M. sativa and M. falcata.
