Gene Arrangement in the Duplicate Linkage Groups V and IX: Nectariless, Glandless, and Withering Bract in Cotton1

  1. R. J. Kohel2

Abstract

Abstract

Genetic investigations of Upland cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., have established that the genes controlling the expression of nectariless (ne1, ne2), glandless (gl2, gl3), and withering bract (bw1, bw2) are at duplicate loci in homeologous chromosomes. Three-point linkage tests in these homeologous linkage groups indicate that the gene order was probably Gl2-Bw1-Ne1 in the A genome and Bw2-Gl3-Ne2 in the D genome. However, recombination percentages were not significantly different between Bw1-Ne1 and Gl2-Ne1 in the A genome, and between Bw2-Ne2 in the D genome.
