Abstract

An analysis of phenotypic stability is usually based on multilocation trials, which yield a two-way table of genotypes and locations. To analyse stability, it is common to estimate for each genotypes a component of variance (the stability variance) attributable to the genotype × location interaction of the genotype. This approach has the limitation of ignoring genotype × year interactions, which may have a large influence on stability. This paper proposes a new measure of stability, which equally weights estimates of genotypes × year, genotypes × location, and genotype × location interaction variances.
