Photophosphorylation in Barley1

  1. R. A. Kleese2

Extraction and assay conditions for obtaining barley chloroplasts capable of carrying on photophosphorylation are presented. Except for response to pH and concentration of ADP, these conditions are similar to those reported for other species.

Genotypic differences in rates of photophosphorylation in barley were demonstrated. In light of the limited number of varieties studied, it is anticipated that considerably more genetic variation in rate of photophosphorylation may be found in barley than was observed in this study.
