Abstract

Abstract

Isogenic lines for GG and gg of three commercial lima bean varieties were compared for seed yield and emergence in five environments. Significant differences for yield were found for environments, genotypes, and genotype ✕ environment interaction. However, the G/g locus did not affect yield in the three genetic backgrounds. Significant differences were also found for all emergence comparisons. There was an interaction between genetic background and the G/g locus and this interaction interacted with the environments. The substitution of gg for GG had an effect on emergence in two of the three varieties but had no effect in the third. Two hypotheses were presented which could explain this locus by genetic background interaction.
