Inheritance of anther length and width in a cross of ‘Bronco’ X ‘Macrocarpa’ oats gave dihybrid ratios with incomplete dominance. Inheritance of lemma length, lemma and basal pubescence, basal and floret separation, and awn development were each monofactorial but with considerable apparent environmental influences. Large anthers were rather closely associated with heavy awns and other Avena sterilis characters of Macrocarpa, but linkage tests showed that it is possible to recombine larger anthers with spikelet characters similar to the Bronco parent.
