Abstract

Abstract

Wheat seedlings grown exclusively on NH4-N, relative to those grown exclusively on NO3-N or without N, consistently demonstrated a markedly high capacity for subsequent Cs absorption from solutions labelled with Cs137. In addition, previous nitrogen nutrition greatly influenced the relative distribution of absorbed Cs, with percentage transport of Cs to tops being greatest in seedlings cultured with NO3. The results could not be explained on the basis of either K content or respiratory substrate levels prior to the uptake periods.
