The Effect of Lime on the Phosphate Potential and Resin-Extractable Phosphate in Five Acid Soils1

The equilibrium phosphate concentrates in five acid soils showed little change on the addition of excess calcium carbonate, but the amounts of phosphate extracted on shaking with anion exchange resin increased significantly with rising pH. Liming apparently effects some alteration in the soil phosphates, perhaps by causing more phosphate to be adsorbed in a readily removable form.
