Soil air was entrapped at 50–100 cm of water pressure in a wooded field site due to infiltrating water. The air was expelled through piezometer tubes for 2 or 3 months following spring rainfall. Seven additional sites did not exhibit this phenomenon, which appears to be caused by a favorable combination of soil and vegetative factors.
