Relation between Staudinger Indices and Precipitabilities of Polysaccharides Extracted from Forest Soils1

  1. G. R. Saini and
  2. P. O. Salonius2

Fractional precipitation of polysaccharides extracted with hot water from forest soils indicated that the organic layers contained a mixture of up to three polysaccharide fractions.

The precipitabilities of the polysaccharide fractions ranged between 0.48 and 0.74 and the Staudinger indices had a range of 70 to 150. The precipitabilities and the Staudinger indices were inversely related in a linear fashion.
