Studies of P release during short contact times between soil and extractant were conducted on soils with an automatic sequential extracting apparatus. Varying contact times between the soil and extracting solution can be set by an adjustable multigang timer of 20-min cycle. Data for two soils of different textures show marked differences in P extraction. The apparatus appears adaptable for evaluating short-term release of other ions and pesticides from soils.
