The Dissolution of Synthetic Goethites: The Early Stage1

The kinetic curve for the early stage of dissolution of synthetic goethite is linear except for a small curved region close to the origin. This curved region has been shown to be due to the very rapid dissolution of a small amount of amorphous ferric hydroxide which is associated with the goethite.
The amount of amorphous ferric hydroxide is usually no more than 0.2% of the total mass of goethite. Its presence cannot be detected even by electron diffraction methods. Please view the pdf by using the Full Text (PDF) link under 'View' to the left.
