A Nomograph for Hydrometer Method of Particle Size Analysis1

  1. Hardip. S. Sur and
  2. N. T. Singh2

The hydrometer method for particle size analysis in soils involves calculations of size of particle (d) settling in a suspension at a given time (t) from the hydrometer reading (R). A parabolic relation described by θ = m(a-bR)1/2 exists between (θ) and R. A nomograph based on relationships between different parameters of the hydrometer method has been developed and its use is explained.
