A New Method of Measuring Shrink-Swell Potential Using Soil Pastes1

Abstract

Abstract

A new method of measuring shrink-swell potential of soil was developed using < 2-mm sieved soil. Results obtained by this method were significantly correlated with COLE determined on natural soil clods (p < 0.001, r2 = 0.83). The new method is fast, requires little equipment, and should be a valuable test of shrink-swell potential when clods cannot be obtained or when equipment for measuring COLE by the standard method is not available.
