Abstract

Abstract

Toluidine blue is adsorbed on negatively charged colloids and exhibits a characteristic color change from blue to purplish red (metachromasis). A procedure to test the metachromasis for the soil was developed and tested for Chile and Ecuador soil samples containing and not containing allophane and imogolite. The results show that the absence of the metachromasis can be used for the test of allophane and imogolite.
